How SWAPRED Works: Red Light Therapy for Your iPhone

What Does SWAPRED Actually Do?

SWAPRED is a screen protector powered by LumaShift™ Technology — a specialized optical filter built into the lens itself. Rather than simply blocking blue light (like most screen protectors and Night Mode settings), SWAPRED converts the high-energy blue light your iPhone screen emits into beneficial red light wavelengths.

The result is a screen that still looks clear and usable, but the light reaching your eyes has been fundamentally shifted — from the wavelengths most associated with eye strain, melatonin suppression, and sleep disruption, to the wavelengths least likely to cause those effects.

What Will My Screen Look Like?

This is one of the most common questions we get, so we want to set the right expectation upfront.

SWAPRED does not make your screen look bright red. The filter is subtle — your screen will have a very slight warm, amber-red tint, similar to what you'd see if you turned your display's color temperature all the way toward warm. In normal daylight or bright indoor lighting, the tint may be barely perceptible. In a dark room, it becomes more noticeable.

Think of it like wearing amber-tinted glasses — the world doesn't look dramatically red, but the quality of light reaching your eyes is meaningfully different.

If your screen looks completely unchanged, that is actually normal in bright lighting conditions. The filter is still working — the LumaShift™ layer is always active regardless of whether the tint is visually obvious.

Why Red Light Instead of Blue?

Blue light (wavelengths around 400–490nm) is the primary culprit behind:

  • Eye strain and fatigue during prolonged screen use
  • Suppression of melatonin, the hormone that signals your brain it's time to sleep
  • Disrupted sleep cycles when using your phone at night

Red light wavelengths (around 620–750nm) do not trigger these same effects. They don't suppress melatonin, are less fatiguing to the eyes, and are used in clinical red light therapy for skin and cellular health benefits.

SWAPRED shifts your screen's output toward those red wavelengths so every minute on your phone is doing less damage — without requiring you to change how you use it.

Does It Work on Top of Night Mode or True Tone?

Yes. SWAPRED works at the lens level, independently of your iPhone's software settings. You can run Night Mode, True Tone, or any display settings alongside it. Using Night Mode in combination with SWAPRED will further reduce blue light exposure, but SWAPRED provides benefits even with standard display settings.

Is SWAPRED Just a Blue Light Filter?

No — and this distinction matters. Standard blue light blocking screen protectors and glasses reduce blue light, but they don't convert it. LumaShift™ Technology actively shifts the wavelength of the light passing through, which is a different optical mechanism than simple blocking or tinting.
